Between September 10th and 30th the “.doc” film exhibition is available online and free of charge on Goethe on Demand platform. The set refers to a selection of contemporary German documentaries organized by the Goethe-Institut Porto Alegre and brings together films that represent the diversity of themes and formats of the cinematographic genre. Technology, globalization, violence, politics, affections, identity and racism are some of the themes approached on in this selection, presented in the most varied forms: essays, interviews, archive images, and fictionalized narratives. The Brazilian film “The Method” is also part of the set and brings up a discussion about documentary making through testimonies by German and Brazilian filmmakers.
Parallel Activities
Talks.doc and Workshop
As a parallel program for the film exhibition, the Goethe-Institut Porto Alegre, together with the critic and researcher Juliana Costa, launches the project “Conversas.doc”(Talks.doc), in which artists, journalists, filmmakers, students and cultural agents develop experimental content and articles about the films from project. The materials will be published on the Goethe-Institut website from September 17th. Participants in the project: Ana Moura, Kim Costa Nunes, Virginia di Lauro, Anelise De Carli, Pedro Henrique Gomes, Rafael Gloria Helena Pavan, Marina Stein and Yasmin Borges and Leonardo Foletto. The exhibition is also the starting point for the workshop “Ver Pela Escrita” (Seeing through Writing), taught by Juliana Costa with students from the Federal Institute of Rio Grande do Sul -Campus Alvorada. The final texts will be dedicated to the film Losers and Winners and the reviews will be published e on the Goethe-Institut website.
